Emergence of SLOPB and Ingrid Memorial Hospital :

The Weijters family of the Netherlands adopted Abdul Motalib Howlader at the age of 6 in the year 1977. Motalib Howlader grew up and studied in the Netherlands. After completing his studies he and his partner Ms. Ingrid decided to track down his biological family. They found his biological family after 17 years in very poor conditions, Motalib and Ingrid were deeply moved seeing the poverty stricken living conditions of the family and other inhabitants of their village and drawn into the drive to work for improving the living conditions of the larger community surrounding the neighborhood out of sheer humanitarian feelings. Motalib and Ingrid founded an organization, Stichting Land Ontwikkelings Project Bangladesh (SLOPB- Bangladesh) on 6th January 1995 to realize their plans upon their return to the Netherlands with the vision of “improve livelihoods and promote greater health and food security among the poor and marginalized people including women, orphans, children and disabled”.In March 1997 SLOPB obtained  registration in Bangladesh as an NGO with the NGO Affairs Bureau in Dhaka, Bangladesh and started to work on Water & Sanitation. Later the Organization started working in the area of community development, livelihood security, water and saniation in greater Barisal, integrated agriculture, orphanage homes, emergency response and social business with help of different donors , Government and many private donors.

SLOPB Bangladesh established its Child Health and Maternity Clinic (CMC) in Shibpur village of Kalisuri union under Bauphal Upazila in 2001 with the objective of reducing the mortality & morbidity of pregnant mothers and new-born babies, improving  the care during pregnancy and lactating period and  providing medical services  to the community.

Ms. Ingrid Weijters led the set up of the Hospital and being a trained medical personnel she transferred the knowledge and skills to the local community for building their capacity for providing services to the greater community.  Unfortunately she had been suffering from breast cancer and fought against the cancer for 4.5 years and left us forever  in 2013 . Recognizing her great efforts and contribution in establishing the hospital, CMC’s name is changed as Ingrid Memorial Hospital(IMH) . However, over the period following the emerging needs the IMH has taken initiatives to expand its services. To continue this service IMH has upgraded its facilities  to ensure 24 hrs service for outdoor and indoor patients, operation theater including post operative services , normal vaginal delivery( NVD), child unit for new born baby, private cabins for well off patients, pathological tests, ultra sonogram, ECG , minor surgeries, ambulance services, referral to Tertiary Hospital etc. Currently 17 staffs including two doctors of one male and one female  are working to serve the patients. IMH is also carrying out its different activities  to promote its quality services by organizing health camp in different locations to ensure medical services at their door steps.
